All of our permanent teaching staff are Registered Early Childhood Educators and Professional Members of the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators. They are all up to date in their First Aid and CPR/AED training.

Angela began working at McMaster Children’s Centre as a supply teacher over several years, until becoming a permanent staff member. Parenting four children inspired Angela to enrol in the Early Childhood Education Diploma Program and her children helped keep her on the Honour roll until completion. Her 25 year experience as the Supervisor of the Lynden Cooperative Preschool and her positive collaborations with families and children in the community is invaluable. She participated in the Girl Guides of Canada for over 20 years and was the Easter Bunny… until recognized by one of her eight grandchildren! Angela’s professional education includes: current administration and business courses, Hanen Speech and Language, Food Handler Certification Course, ECERS/ITERS Environment Rating Scales, various child development and curriculum programs. Angela’s kindness and compassion is evident on a daily basis through her interactions with children, families and staff.
Joanne- Office Assistant
Joanne began a career as a Bookkeeper after graduating from Mohawk College with a Diploma in Accounting. However, after 13 years in the business world, Joanne decided to follow her desire to teach young children, choosing a new path in the child care field. In 1998, she began her journey; first achieving an Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship Program Certificate and then an Honours Diploma in Early Childhood Education. After 15 years, Joanne returned to school and graduated with an Honours Early Childhood Education Leadership and Administrative Certificate. Joanne has held many titles from RECE to Early Years Facilitator and has gained experience and education from these positions to make a positive impact on children and their families. McMaster Children’s Centre is thrilled and extremely fortunate that Joanne has merged her business skills and detailed knowledge of Early Childhood Education to become our Office Assistant.
TODDLER ONE CLASSROOM
Stephanie graduated from Mohawk College in 2003 and has gained a variety of experience in the field for over a decade. In 2015, she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from McMaster University. Stephanie is committed to continued professional development and learning opportunities. With a strong foundation in play based learning, she enjoys engaging the children’s interests with activities that expand their knowledge of the world around them. Her creative nature shines when she is outdoors with the children; she is gifted at fostering the children’s curiosity and self-expression through various natural and science based experiences. Stephanie’s cheerful, welcoming personality is a strong asset to the Toddler One classroom.
TODDLER TWO CLASSROOM
Jennifer has been employed at McMaster Children’s Centre since 2002, after graduating from Mohawk College. Jennifer is friendly, enthusiastic and enjoys introducing the children to new projects and ideas. She likes to incorporate all types of music into the program. Jen loves to sing…and the children love to listen to her beautiful voice! Jennifer believes in staying current in the field; her ongoing professional development includes Food Handlers Certification course, an array of child development, behaviour management, curriculum and special needs education courses. She is also trained in ECERS and ROSIE Environment Rating Scales.
Samantha has been involved with McMaster Children’s Centre since 2006, first as a student and eventually becoming a permanent member of the staff. Samantha nurtures every toddler in her classroom, providing a caring, attentive environment that encourages and supports early learning. She is truly committed to her chosen profession and the role of a Registered Early Childhood Educator. Samantha has completed an assortment of courses focusing on child development, special needs education and various Toddler Music and Movement programs. She has also completed the Good Beginnings nutrition course, For Goodness Sake Behavioural Intervention Program and Signed English course. She is trained in ITERS/ECERS and ROSIE Environment Rating Scales.
Jessica’s first introduction to the staff and children at McMCC was in 2010, when she taught swimming lessons to the daycare children at the University pool. The teachers noted her outstanding enthusiasm and kind and supportive nature throughout the swimming session. In 2011, after graduating from McMaster University with an Honours Degree in Psychology and Biology, Jessica found herself drawn to teaching. It was no surprise that her path once again crossed with McMaster Children’s Centre; it is here that she began her career as an educator. In 2015, Jessica pursued her passion and completed her Early Childhood Education Diploma (Honours) from St. Lawrence College. Jessica is excited about her permanent role as the newest RECE in the Toddler Two Room and is eager to share her skills, wide range of knowledge and education with her new teaching team.
PRESCHOOL ONE CLASSROOM
Sonya has been working at McMaster Children’s Centre since 1994. Sonya is a member of the Association of Early Childhood Educators: Ontario and achieved her Certification in 2003. Her extensive education includes: Hanen Speech and Language, Abuse and Violence Prevention, ECER’s and ROSIE Environment Rating Scales; numerous Reggio Emilia, child development, literacy, special needs education and behaviour management courses. She volunteered as a fundraising co-chair for the Artists at the Centre Project for nearly 3 years. Sonya is a Playing with Rainbow’s Facilitator; a play program for at -risk, refugee children. Trained as a 16 Guidelines for Life Facilitator in 2008, Sonya has developed a simple framework for the early childhood setting that emphasizes positive social interactions, emotional development and compassion, all areas that she feels strongly about. Her creativity, appreciation of art and music and her love of adventure is reflected in her work in the classroom each day.
Linda has been working at McMaster Children’s Centre since 1996. For over a decade, Linda and Sonya have developed a strong partnership in the Pre One classroom. Linda offers an in-depth knowledge of the developmental milestones of preschool children. She excels at understanding the strengths and goals of every child in her care. She is a kind, warm and compassionate individual. Linda is educated in various aspects of Early Childhood Education: ECER’s and ROSIE Environment Rating Scales, Good Beginnings preschool nutrition course, Food Handlers Certificate and extensive child development, literacy and behaviour management courses. She enjoys partnering with parents to bridge the gap between the early learning environment and home. Linda’s love of literacy is evident, as she is often seen reading favourite stories with youngsters snuggled up beside her.
PRESCHOOL TWO CLASSROOM
Lori has been employed at McMaster Children’s Centre since 1987. Along with her knowledge and expertise as both an educator and mother, Lori’s continuing education in the field has earned her certificates in Child Abuse Prevention, Hanen Language, Food Handlers, Behavioural Intervention, High Scope Assessment Training, E.C Drury School: Needs of the Deaf and Good Beginnings preschool nutritional course to name but a few. You will find Lori welcoming families at the centre every morning, chatting with parents or cuddling with children who have just arrived to begin their day. Lori’s passion for teaching is evident daily in her energy and enthusiasm in the program. Lori, together with Diane, have welcomed children and their families with warmth and compassion, as a dynamic teaching team for over 20 years.
Diane has been working at McMaster Children’s Centre since 1991. She brings an atmosphere of collaboration to the program. Her experience both as a parent and a professional have provided her with insight, compassion and humour that she shares with the children and families in her care. Diane has successfully completed a variety of professional development courses in the field of ECE, including Hanen Speech and Language, For Goodness Sake Behavioural Intervention program, Good Beginnings preschool nutrition course, as well as several child development, special needs education and literacy courses. She is also trained in ECERS, ROSIE Environment Rating Scales, and The Food Handlers Certification Course.
Cristi has been working at McMaster Children’s Centre since 2007, shortly after graduating from College with Honours. Her education includes ROSIE, ITERS/ECERS Environment Rating Scale and the Early Literacy Checklist. She has recently completed her Early Childhood Leadership and Administration Certificate at Mohawk College. Cristi has attended a variety of professional development courses and workshops through the years, with a focus on Reggio Emilia curriculum, toddler behaviour and development and early literacy. She is a member of the AECEO, Ontario Reggio Association and the Canadian Association for Young Children. Cristi is a singer and amateur musician with a joy for music, dance and the visual arts. She loves to be creative and learn alongside with the children. She believes in the competence and complexity of children and is endlessly fascinated by them.
Brigitte: Centre Cook
Brigitte has worked at McMaster Children’s Centre since 2002. She began as a classroom teacher in the program, but her love of cooking eventually led her to the Centre’s kitchen. Brigitte’s nutritional knowledge, enjoyment of cooking and love of children is apparent. She enjoys trying new recipes with a focus on multiculturalism. The children often express how much they love Brigitte’s cooking and parents try to duplicate her most popular meals at home. She has attended an array of professional development courses related to Nutrition, Health and Safety and is updated in the Food Handler Certification Course.
Susan has been employed at the McMaster Children’s Centre since 1990. She has experience with every age group in the centre and is often seen assisting in several of the classrooms during the course of a day. Susan has attended a wide variety of professional development courses including American Sign Language, ECERS Environment Rating Scale, various child development and behaviour management courses. Literacy is and always has been important to Susan; she integrates this interest into the program where she enjoys reading to the children.
